Our clients outlined a short and very open brief, which offered us the parameters to have a full creative jurisdiction. Maria and Gabi, the owners, wanted a space which is not extravagant but that only at a subconscious level springs a feeling of well-being. The interior design of Bistro PAPILA ought to offer a warm and familiar touch. Therefore, the aim of our project was to conceive a visually attractive space, where the selection of materials and the construction’s details complement the quality of the food they offer.
The interior design proposed by us was to create the bistro as a dining room where family and friends can come together to relax and indulge in delicious food and plenty of chat. We carefully selected decorative objects and furniture to generate this pleasant atmosphere. The design pursues a minimalist line supported by the clean layout of furniture, few decorations and primary forms. Rattan, antique mirror, wood design, wall texture enriches the atmosphere, leaving the impression of delicate touch of time. (Iulia Circei)
The richness of the ambience comes from the subtle details such as wall textures, various shades of burnt red, material inserts and metal accents. The materials used are authentic, natural and propel a warm feeling. The floor is unfinished, leaving a cement screed in a shade of bright gray. In the dining areas, brass inserts separate the floor from the screed from another treatment: micro cement of a greenish gray.
The area of the bar is the focal point and interrupts the cohesion of the interior space and completely changes the atmosphere dominating the perspective even from the entrance. The vinyl finishing of the floor, ascents on the front of the bar furniture, helping to unify the vertical and horizontal surfaces. This creates a homogenized flow between the walls, the floor and the furniture, achieving a sophisticated affinity between the elements. The lavish character of the bar’s room comes from overlapping materials and textures in similar tones of burnt red. Although heavily saturated, this red tone is perceived as calm and elegant. Bistro Papila has two lounges which are arranged in an honest style, creating a space that breathes which is in contrast with the richness of the serving area. A long banquette joined to the wall and shared by the dining table fills the first salon while a round table set in the center offers private space for conversation in the second salon. The corridors’ walls along with the natural wood essences of the furniture create a refreshing atmosphere. The wall accessories found in the two salons are well appointed, especially designed for this concept. The simple form and the unpretentious textures and materials used, complete the bespoke concept.
The colour palette is limited, based on two complementary colours, red burnt and sage green. Joining them intensifies the colour strength due to their complementary. They are joined by neutral shades of gray and creamy but also some accents of gold, pink and mustard. The green and white tones of the walls along with the grain of the floor and the natural wood colour reminds of a simple way of life.
